RENO, Nev. –The Reno Aces (5-3) hosted the Sacramento River Cats (5-4) in their first home series of the 2024 campaign. Reno dropped the first three games, including two extra-inning losses, but rebounded in the second half of the series, taking the final three games, and outscoring the River Cats 28-to-10.

The BLC-Nine notched their first home triumph on Friday in dominating fashion, blowing out Sacramento, 9-1. Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect, right-hander Cristian Mena was the star of the game. Making his second start of 2024, the 21-year-old allowed one run through six innings of work with two strikeouts, leading Reno to their first home victory. He has a 0.82 ERA through two starts in 2024 and is fitting in nicely in the Aces rotation.

The series featured an overflow of offense, including productive outputs by Albert Almora Jr, Kyle Garlick, and Jorge Barrosa.

Almora, Jr. produced a team-leading .428 batting average in the series. The Hialeah Gardens-native tallied 12 base knocks, including three doubles, while gathering eight RBI. He currently leads the Pacific Coast League in batting average (.485) and is second in hits (16).

Garlick continued to showcase his power for the Aces as the 32-year-old notched six hits, five of them resulting in extra bases including three home runs. He also collected a team-leading 12 RBI and 17 total bases in the series.

The California native finds himself in the top 10 in five different categories in the PCL: 1st TB (27), T-1st HR (5), 2nd RBI (17), T-2nd XBH (8), and 6th SLG (.730).

After making his MLB debut on April 1st, Barrosa rejoined the Aces on Thursday.

Over the series’ final four games, the switch-hitter produced a .400 batting average (6-for-15) while driving in eight runs for Reno. On Friday night, the speedster smoked his first long shot of the season over the left-field porch and plated four Aces in part of his most productive night of the series.

Arizona Diamondbacks key free agent signing over the off-season, left-handed starer Jordan Montgomery, mad his Reno Aces debut on Sunday. The South Carolina native earned a no-decision after he surrendered two runs on three hits, three walks and two strikeouts completed four innings of work on the mound.

Reno will travel to Tacoma to take on the Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, in a six-game set beginning on Tuesday, April 9, with the first scheduled at 6:05 p.m. PT.
