RENO, Nev. –The 2024 MiLB Opening Weekend saw the Reno Aces showcase their talented pitching and potent offense with a series win over their Silver State rivals, the Las Vegas Aviators, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, at Las Vegas Ballpark.

Slade Cecconi allowed no hits and two walks and struck out five Aviators through five innings of work in Friday's season opener. The 24-year-old righty was backed up offensively with 12 hits and four runs by Reno's bats. Kyle Garlick blasted a solo home run in the sixth inning, while Jose Herrera slugged a clutch solo shot to right field to give Reno a two-run lead in the top of the ninth. The Aces went 12-for-36 (.333) with four extra-base hits on the night.

Justin Martinez came out for the save on Friday night in his first appearance of 2024. The young flame-thrower dominated, striking out all three batters he faced, completing a 4-2 win for Reno.

Due to inclement weather, Saturday's game was postponed and was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 1st (time TBA), when the Aces return to Las Vegas Ballpark.

Sunday's series finale saw Reno's offense take advantage of the Aviators' inconsistent pitching. The Aces' offense torch four home runs, including back-to-back solo shots by Albert Almora Jr. and Adrian Del Castillo, to kick off the scoring. The Aces' offense broke out in the seventh inning, recording eight runs en route to a 15-2 win. As a team, Reno went 29-for-78 (.371) in the first two games of the 2024 season.

On the mound, Cristian Mena made his Aces debut and was lights out for five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while punching out six Aviators. The young right-hander racked up five swinging strikes, giving him his first win of the season.

The Aces will kick off their home opener at Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, April 2nd, with a six-game series against the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
