Round Rock Dishes Out Three Homers in Series-Opening Win

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Fueled by three early home runs, the Round Rock Express (42-53) snapped out of their recent funk with a dominant 10-1 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes (38-57) on Monday night at Dell Diamond. E-Train 1B Ronald Guzmán finished the game 3-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Round Rock starter RHP James Dykstra (1-3, 7.97) earned his first career Triple-A victory after holding New Orleans to just one run on five hits while striking out four in five solid innings of work. On the losing side, Baby Cakes RHP Scott Copeland (6-9, 6.00) was roughed up for 10 runs on 11 hits in just four innings.
The visiting side claimed a brief lead in the top of the first inning. Former Express 1B Tomás Telis collected a two-out double before racing home on an ensuing Brian Anderson single.
The Express answered with three runs in the bottom of the second. RF Ryan Rua , CF Jared Hoying and 1B Ronald Guzman teamed up for three straight singles to open the frame, the latest of which tied the game at one. Two hitters later, 2B Luis Marté singled to score Hoying and Guzman, giving Round Rock the lead at 3-1.
An inning later, DH Brett Nicholas worked a one-out double prior to a Hoying walk. Guzman then singled to score Nicholas, pushing the gap to 4-1. In the next at-bat, 3B Jason Martinson stepped to the plate and sent a booming three-run homer into the upper deck of the Home Run Porch.
The Express hit barrage carried over into the fourth inning as Nicholas singled before Rua sent a two-run shot crashing into the bullpen in left field. After a pair of outs, Guzman notched his third hit of the night, a solo home run that upped the gap to 10-1.
Round Rock's bullpen held serve as LHP Jimmy Reyes , RHP Sam Wolff , RHP R.J. Alvarez and RHP Preston Claiborne teamed up keep New Orleans scoreless over the final four innings to preserve the 10-1 win.
The Express and Baby Cakes are set to do battle again on Tuesday night. Round Rock RHP Tyler Wagner
(1-8, 7.28)
is slated to get the start against a New Orleans pitcher yet to be announced. First pitch at Dell Diamond is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
