FireAnts March into Dell Diamond

What Could Have Been Night Introduces Alternate Team Name
July 12, 2016

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Hurrah! The FireAnts are set to go marching one-by-one in to Dell Diamond on Thursday, July 21. For one night only, the Round Rock Express will become the Round Rock FireAnts on the first-ever What Could Have Been Night, paying homage to a team name that didn't make the final cut.

The Express will wear FireAnts jerseys and caps Thursday night to reflect the new team name. The logo, designed locally by Redroc Advertising, features a fierce red ant in a "RR" cap, holding a lit match as a bat. The unique jerseys will be auctioned off online during the game with all proceeds benefiting the LIVESTRONG Foundation. FireAnts t-shirts are currently on sale in the Railyard Team Store.

The first 1,500 fans entering the stadium will receive a free FireAnts rally towel, thanks to RockSports Screen Printing.

In 1999, Ryan Sanders Baseball held a name the team contest that featured a handful of fan-submitted entries. The Express, with its ties to Nolan Ryan and his nickname the Ryan Express, and the Pacific Union rail line that runs next to Dell Diamond helped give the name Express the advantage. Other team name finalists included FireAnts, Outlaws and Rattlers.

Spike, the Express's beloved mascot, will have the night off as the FireAnts will bring in their own red fire ant. The team will host a name-the-mascot contest on Twitter this week.

Tickets are still available for Thursday's What Could Have Been Night as the FireAnts take on Pacific Coast League Championship series foes the Fresno Grizzlies (Houston Astros affiliate).

Single game tickets are available along with season ticket packages and group discounts. For more information on the Express, visit www.RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255. Keep up with the Express on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter!
