Rattlers' Garth doesn't miss a beat
Garth, who had been sidelined since July 18, hardly missed a beat. He had RBI singles in the first and third innings, singled again in the sixth and homered leading off the eighth to forge a 6-6 tie for the Timber Rattlers (11-21).
The 21-year-old second baseman raised his batting average 11 points to .277.
Johan Limonta drew a leadoff walk to start the 10th and was replaced by pinch-runner Juan Guzman. Silver Hawks reliever Kyler Newby (4-1) uncorked an errant pickoff attempt and a wild pitch to plate the winning run.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1-1) tossed two scoreless innings to pick up the victory.
Frank Curreri had a big night in a losing cause, slugging a three-run homer in the third and delivering a two-run double in the fifth for South Bend (21-10).
