ROUND ROCK, Texas – Round Rock Express RHP Cory Abbott was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for August 11-17, as announced by Minor League Baseball on Monday afternoon. Abbott is the third member of the E-Train to earn a league honor this season and second in as many weeks.

Abbott made the start on Saturday, August 16 and earned the winning decision as Round Rock downed Sacramento, 4-0. The right-hander completed 5.1 shutout innings and recorded three strikeouts.

Through 16 games, including 13 starts, for the E-Train this season, Abbott holds a 3-4 record, 6.79 ERA (43 ER/57.0 IP) and has tallied 62 punchouts.

Abbott has helped Round Rock’s pitching staff to the second-lowest ERA in the PCL for the month of August at 3.89 (61 ER/141.0 IP). The 61 earned runs allowed are also the second-lowest number in the league for the month, helping the team to a 10-6 record.

The San Diego, California native signed a minor league contract with Texas on May 9, 2025. Abbott had started the season with the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos of the Mexican League. He got his start in professional baseball after being drafted by the Chicago Cubs out of Loyola Marymount University in the second round of the 2017 draft.

The Express hit the road as they open a six-game series tomorrow night against the International League St. Paul Saints (Minnesota Twins affiliate) at CHS Field.
