Express Drop Finale as Aces Ride Big Eighth Frame to Victory

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Round Rock struck first with a run in the bottom of the third. 2B Alex De Goti walked and moved to second on CF Evan Carter’s single. LF Dustin Harris drove De Goti in with a single and the Express led 1-0.

3B Alan Trejo belted his first home run of the year in the bottom of the sixth. Trejo’s solo shot moved the Express lead to 2-0.

Reno put two runners on to start the eighth as LF Jorge Barrosa drew a walk and SS Jordan Lawlar singled. 3B Tristin English drove the two in with a double down the left field line and tied it up at 2-2. The Aces took the lead with an RBI single from DH Blaze Alexander then CF Cristian Pache sent 1B Trey Mancini home with a base hit. With the bases loaded, Barrosa drew his second walk of the inning scratching another run across. Lawlar tallied another single that sent two runners home for a 7-2 Aces lead after eight.

De Goti recorded his second home run of the year with a two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth and the Express trailed, 7-4. RHP John Curtiss shut the door by stranding two base runners in the ninth. Reno tied the series with their 7-4 win in Sunday’s finale.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

CAN’T STOP CURVELO: RHP Luis Curvelo made his team-leading 19th appearance for the Express on Sunday. He retired all three batters with seven strikes on 11 pitches in the seventh inning. Curvelo has not allowed a run in 11 consecutive outings, which is the second longest streak in the Pacific Coast League. He has given up just five hits and three walks while striking out 13 during the streak.

DE GOTI GETTING ON: 2B Alex De Goti went 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, two runs and two walks on Sunday. De Goti got on base in all four plate appearances while recording his eighth multi-hit game of the season.

KEEPING IT IN THE YARD: Round Rock’s pitchers held Reno without a home run in all six games of the series. The Aces have gone without a homer in seven consecutive games, including their series finale against Albuquerque on May 25. Before coming to Dell Diamond, Reno hadn’t been held without a homer for more than two games at a time this year.
