Sugar Land Picks Up 11-4 Victory over Round Rock

SUGAR LAND, Texas – The Round Rock Express (8-12) fell to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (14-6) by a final score of 11-4 on Saturday night at Constellation Field. Sugar Land has taken four of the first five games in the series.

Express starter RHP Collin Wiles (0-1, 10.80) was credited with the loss after he recorded 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Sugar Land reliever RHP Miguel Diaz (1-1, 7.71) took home the victory after he threw 1.1 scoreless frames, giving up one hit, one walk and three strikeouts.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • The Space Cowboys took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI ground out by SS Jacob Amaya.
  • Sugar Land plated three runs in the home half of the fourth inning. DH Cesar Salazar started the scoring and brought home Wagner on a single that dribbled through the right side of the infield. Back-to-back run scoring singles to left field by Amaya and C Luke Berryhill rounded out the scoring in the inning and it was a 4-0 game.
  • 2B Jesus Bastidas drove in Salazar and Amaya on a bases loaded double increasing the lead to 6-0.
  • Round Rock got on the board in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs to cut the Sugar Land lead to 6-4. It began with a sacrifice fly by LF Dustin Harris which scored DH Derek Hill to make it 6-1. RBI singles by RF Sandro Fabian and 2B Jonathan Ornelas plated C Andrew Knapp and 1B Blaine Crim to score two. The half-inning was capped off by an RBI ground out by 3B Jantzen Witte scoring Fabian.
  • LF Cooper Hummel answered for Sugar Land in the bottom of the frame, bringing home Wagner on an RBI single to make it 7-4. Berryhill brought home two with a single up the middle to increase the Space Cowboys lead to 9-4. Amaya scored on a 3B David Hensley base knock as the advantage grew to 10-4.
  • In the eighth inning, Amaya drew a bases loaded walk to add another run to the Sugar Land making it a final score of 11-4.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Express starter RHP Collin Wiles recorded 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, two walks and two punch outs. This was his first outing since September 29, 2022 when he was pitching for the Oakland Athletics.
  • RF Sandro Fabian had a great night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Next up: Round Rock and Sugar Land close out their six-game series on Sunday afternoon from Constellation Field with first pitch for game six of the series set for 2:05 p.m. CT.
