ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (57-54) claimed its fifth shutout win of the season on Sunday night at Dell Diamond thanks to a 6-0 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters (64-48) that extended the E-Train’s series lead to 3-1. SS Ryan Dorow kickstarted a big third inning for Round Rock with a two-run home run, which marked his ninth home run of the season and sixth during the month of September.

Round Rock RHP David Kubiak (2-0, 1.69) earned his second straight win with a scoreless 6.0-inning start that saw seven hits, two walks and four strikeouts. The loss went to Sugar Land RHP Peter Solomon (8-1, 4.70), whose start saw five runs on seven hits and one walk through 2.2 frames.

The Express busted the night’s scoring open with five runs in the third inning. After CF Elier Hernandez led off the frame with a double, Dorow brought his center fielder in with a home run to left field.

The inning continued as LF Steele Walker and 3B Brock Holt followed with back-to-back singles before a double from DH Josh Jung scored Walker and sent Holt to third. A single from 2B Domingo Leyba drove both Holt and Jung across home plate. 1B Curtis Terry hit a single and Hernandez worked a walk to load the bases and force a Skeeters pitching change. LHP Kit Scheetz emerged from the bullpen and recorded the final out as the Express took their 5-0 lead into the fourth.

After three scoreless frames, the good guys added one more to their total when Leyba scored in the seventh. Three consecutive singles from Leyba, Hernandez and Dorow helped the second baseman around the bases for the 6-0 advantage that held to be final.

Holt finished the contest 2-4 with one walk and one run scored in his first Major League rehab appearance.

Round Rock looks to clinch the series in game four against Sugar Land on Monday night at Dell Diamond. Express LHP Brock Burke (1-5, 6.29) is set to take the mound up against Skeeters RHP Hunter Brown (4-0, 4.32). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
