Bloxom Homers, Clay Shuts Down Rock Cats

April 30, 2013

New Britain, CT - Justin Bloxom homered and Caleb Clay held down a hot Rock Cats lineup to lead the Harrisburg Senators to a 6-2 win over New Britain.

For the second time in as many nights, the Senators scored four runs in an inning to surge in front early. This time, they were able to hold the lead. In the third, Erik Komatsu drew a bases loaded walk against starter Alex Meyer to bring home the first run. Jerad Head followed with a two-run single, and Bloxom drove in the fourth run with a sacrifice-fly.

Caleb Clay cruised through the first five innings before he surrendered two unearned runs in the sixth. The right-hander picked up his team-leading third win, giving up just three hits in five and two-thirds. Ian Krol came on with the bases loaded and two outs and struck out James Beresford to end the Rock Cats sixth.

The Senators added two insurance runs in the sixth, when Head singled with two out and Bloxom pounded a hanging curveball over the left field fence for his second home run of the season, and his first from the right side of the plate.

Krol stayed on for the seventh and picked up two more strikeouts. Michael Broadway came on for a pair of shutout innings to close out the game and recorded two strikeouts himself. Broadway has yet to give up an earned run in five appearances this season.

Tomorrow, the Senators continue their four-game series in New Britain against the Rock Cats with game three. Game time is 6:35 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:20 p.m.
