Broderick's Strong Outing Not Enough as Sens Fall 3-1

May 6, 2013

Harrisburg, PA - Brian Broderick pitched six strong innings and Sandy Leon had a pair of hits, but the Harrisburg Senators fell to the Altoona Curve 3-1 in the series opener at Metro Bank Park.

Neither team recorded a base hit until the fifth inning, when Jarek Cunningham doubled to lead off the frame. With two outs and runners on the corners, Broderick's mound opponent Casey Sadler came through with a two-run single to break the scoreless tie.

In the bottom of the fifth with two outs and Justin Bloxom on first, Leon picked up the first Senators hit with a line drive single into center field. The ball skipped past Mel Rojas, Jr. and allowed Bloxom to come around and score the lone Senators run.

Broderick pitched six innings and allowed just three hits, but suffered the loss. Sadler tossed eight innings, surrendering only the unearned run to Harrisburg. Tim Alderson pitched the ninth and recorded his second save.

Tomorrow, the Senators continue their three-game series with the Altoona Curve at Metro Bank Park. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
