Karns Goes The Distance But Sens Fall 3-2

July 28, 2013

Portland, ME - Nathan Karns tossed a complete game, but the Harrisburg Senators fell to the Portland Sea Dogs 3-2 at Hadlock Field and split the four-game series.

The Senators jumped ahead first with a run in the second inning. Ricky Hague doubled with one out and two batters later Brian Jeroloman came through with a double of his own to put Harrisburg on the board.

Portland responded with two runs in the third, but the Senators tied it in the seventh on Carlos Rivero's RBI single. A solo home run by Matt Spring leading off the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Sea Dogs a lead they would not relinquish.

Karns gave up five hits, walked four, and struck out eight in his eight innings of work. The right-hander threw 112 pitches, 73 for strikes. Jeroloman and Jose Lozada each reached base four times, with two hits and two walks. The Senators out-hit Portland 10-5, but left 10 on base and were 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Tomorrow, the Senators have the night off before opening a three-game set in Trenton on Tuesday. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:50 p.m.
