Reading Rallies Late to Beat Sens 7-5

April 23, 2013

Harrisburg, PA -- Brian Goodwin hit a lead off home run, but the Reading Fightin Phils rallied with four runs in the ninth inning and held on to defeat the Harrisburg Senators 7-5 at Metro Bank Park.

The game was sloppy on both sides, as the two teams combined to commit six errors (four were charged to the Senators). The Sens put up a three spot in the first off Reading starter Seth Rosin. After Goodwin's blast, the next three hitters all singled. Justin Bloxom drove home one of the runs and the other came in on an error. Goodwin had three hits on the night.

Caleb Clay held the Fightin Phils at bay until the fourth, when Sebastian Valle delivered an RBI double and Derrick Mitchell came through with an RBI single to bring Reading within one. It was the third consecutive quality start for Clay. The right-hander went six and one-third innings and surrendered just two earned runs.

With the game tied at three in the bottom of the seventh, Josh Johnson delivered an RBI single to give the Senators the lead once again. It was short lived, however. In the ninth, Zach Collier belted a three-run homer off Sens reliever Pat Lehman to put Reading in front for good. They added an unearned run as well.

The Senators threatened in the ninth, scoring a run on a balk and putting the tying runs in scoring position, but Erik Komatsu (who went two-for-four in his first game with Harrisburg this season) struck out to end the contest. Mauricio Robles recorded his first save for Reading and Juan Sosa picked up the win in relief.

Tomorrow, the Senators conclude their three-game series against the Reading Fightin Phils at Metro Bank Park. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
