Senators Shut Out by Flying Squirrels

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators had their chances, but stranded 11 runners on base and fell 4-0 to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in the series opener at Metro Bank Park on Monday night.

Richmond jumped ahead early in the first on an RBI single from Javier Herrera off Senators starter Blake Treinen. The Senators loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the first, but couldn't bring anyone around to score.

The Flying Squirrels added single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Joe Panik was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jarrett Parker and Ryan Lollis also had a pair of hits for Richmond, and Travious Relaford picked up an RBI single.

Bill Bray pitched a perfect seventh inning out of the Senators bullpen and Ian Krol tossed two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Brian Goodwin, Jerad Head, Ricky Hague, and Sean Nicol had the four hits for the Senators in the ballgame, all singles.

Treinen gave up all four runs in six innings of work and struck out seven. Fabio Castillo earned the win for Richmond with three and one-third hitless innings.    

Tomorrow, the Senators continue their three-game series at Metro Bank Park against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
