June 22, 2014

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds rolled over the Lexington Legends with a 10-2 win on Sunday evening. With a six-run third inning, Delmarva (41-32, 3-1) earned a series victory in the opening set of the second half.

After back-to-back pitchers' duels, the Shorebirds offense broke out for double digits. Jared Breen hooked a two-run double in the second inning to open the scoring. In the third inning, Delmarva rallied for six runs to turn the game into a blowout. Chance Sisco sliced a two-run single to make it 4-1. With the bases loaded, Gregory Lorenzo lined a single to left field that went under the glove of Dex Kjerstad. The fielding error allowed all three runners to score, upping the lead to 7-1. Lorenzo then scored on an RBI double by Lucas Herbst.

After batting around in the third inning, Delmarva poured it on with two runs in the fourth. Sisco added another RBI with a double to drive home Drew Dosch. Tanner Rust collected an RBI with a grounder to bring in Creede Simpson.

Luis Gonzalez pitched well enough to keep the comfortable margin for Delmarva, earning his second victory in the process. The left-hander allowed one run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. David Richardson and Williams Louico combined to finish off the game. The Legends scored a harmless run in the eighth inning to bring the final scoreline to 10-2. Matt Tenuta took the loss after failing to get through the third inning.

The Shorebirds will now welcome in the West Virginia Power for a four-game series. All-Star Hunter Harvey (3-4, 3.13) will start for Delmarva against right-hander Dovydas Neverauskas (3-5, 6.55) for West Virginia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Perdue Stadium on Monday evening.
