Shorebirds Fall in Finale, 4-2

Salisbury, Md. - The Kannapolis Intimidators (4-3) scored two runs in the sixth inning and defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds (4-3) 4-2 on Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds outhit the Intimidators ten to seven, but went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Kannapolis scored in the first inning for a third straight game.  Micah Johnson led off the game with a triple off the base of the center field wall.  Then, Adam Heisler hit a sacrifice fly to right field to give Kannapolis a 1-0 lead.

The Shorebirds tied the game in the fifth.  Anthony Vega led off with a perfect bunt that stayed fair up the third baseline.  He moved to third on a single down the right field line by Adrian Marin.  Pedro Perez followed with a slow grounder to second that allowed Vega to score.

The Intimidators regained the lead in the sixth inning.  Zachary Fisher hit a two out double to deep left field to score Jason Coats and Michael Marjama. 

The Shorebirds cut the deficit to one in the seventh.  Gregory Lorenzo was hit by a pitch to open the inning.  He later scored on an opposite field single by Nik Balog.

Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell lasted 5.2 innings.  He allowed six hits and three runs.

Mychal Givens held the Intimidators hitless over the next 1.1 innings.  Right-hander Williams Louico fanned four batters over two innings and allowed one unearned run.

Kannapolis extended the lead to 4-2 in the ninth inning.  Kale Kiser hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Fisher, who reached on an error by Torsten Boss.

Kannapolis closer Braulio Ortiz slammed the door on the Shorebirds in the ninth inning by getting Balog to ground into a double play to end the game.

The Shorebirds hit the road for the first time this year on Thursday, April 11 to begin a seven-game road swing against Hagerstown and Kannapolis.
