April 12, 2013

Hagerstown, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds (5-4) managed just two hits over the first seven innings and lost game two to the Hagerstown Suns (5-4) by a final score of 4-0 on Friday night at Municipal Stadium.  The Shorebirds left nine men on base and went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Hagerstown jumped to an early lead in the second against Shorebirds starter Matt Taylor.  JR Higley hit a one out double to right-center field.  Two batters later, he scored on a single by Stephen Perez.  Pedro Severino reached on an error by Torsten Boss to load the bases.  Then, Wes Schill lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to put the Suns in front 2-0.  Tony Renda followed with a two-run double to right-center to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Taylor lasted just two innings.  He allowed four hits and four runs, just one of which was earned.  Taylor struck out three and walked two.

Matt Hobgood relieved Taylor in the third and was nearly flawless over three innings.  He allowed one hit and faced the minimum.

Kevin Jacob made his debut out of the Shorebirds bullpen in the sixth and tossed a scoreless inning.  Jose Nivar did not allow a hit over two perfect innings.

Hagerstown starter Brett Mooneyham yielded just one hit over six scoreless innings to earn the win.  Brian Rauh held the Shorebirds scoreless over the final three innings to earn his first save of the year.

The Shorebirds outhit the Suns six to five.  The Shorebirds recorded three of their six hits in the eighth inning.  Gregory Lorenzo led off with a deep triple to left field, but missed second base rounding third and was called out on the appeal by Hagerstown.  Torsten Boss and Christian Walker singled in the eighth, but were stranded.

The Shorebirds continue their series against the Suns on Saturday night at 6:35pm.  RHP Branden Kline is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
