Mud Hens bats erupt for 12 runs, pitching solid in win

INDIANAPOLIS, IN: The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Indianapolis Indians 12-2 on Saturday night at Victory Field in Indianapolis, IN. The Mud Hens took the win in a full team effort riding solid pitching, a potent offense and poor opposing defense. The Mud Hens may not have needed any help

INDIANAPOLIS, IN: The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Indianapolis Indians 12-2 on Saturday night at Victory Field in Indianapolis, IN. The Mud Hens took the win in a full team effort riding solid pitching, a potent offense and poor opposing defense. The Mud Hens may not have needed any help offensively as they tallied 12 runs on 12 hits. The Indians tallied six errors that aided the Mud Hens runs scoring. The Hens had two errors of their own.

The Mud Hens were led offensively by Kody Clemens who tallied three hits, including two triples, with three RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Josh Lester, Jacob Robson, and Jack Lopez each tallied two hits. Trayce Thompson, Dane Myers and Jamie Westbrook each picked up a hit as well. Myers had two RBI, and Lester, Thompson and Robson each had one RBI. The Mud Hens almost went six full times through the batting order. The team tallied 52 plate appearances, dividing up into nine walks, one sacrifice and 42 at-bats. The Hens stranded 37 runners despite the 12-run outburst.

Markus Solbach picked up the winning decision in his Mud Hens debut. Solbach pitched 5.0 innings, allowing four hits, two unearned runs, one walk and five strikeouts. Miguel Del Pozo pitched a hitless 6th inning, picking up one walk and one strikeout. Sam Howard came on and pitched a scoreless 7th inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. Dario Gardea pitched a scoreless 8th inning in his AAA debut, allowing one hit and striking out two batters. Bryan Garcia came on to pitch a scoreless 9th inning, allowing two hits and one walk. The Mud Hens had 10 strikeouts as a staff, while allowing two runs (zero earned) on eight hits.

What's Next: The Mud Hens will look to leave Indianapolis with a series split following a big win Saturday night. The Mud Hens will square off in a matinee game on Sunday, May 22, with first pitch being at 1:35 pm EST. Following the series finale on Sunday, the Indians will head to St. Paul for a new series with the St. Paul Saints, and the Mud Hens will return home to play host to the Nashville Sounds. Both series begin Tuesday, May 24th.
