Gomez, Negrych named IL All-Stars

Top hitters to represent Bisons at Triple-A All-Star Game
July 3, 2013

The International League today announced that Buffalo Bisons 2B JIM NEGRYCH and DH MAURO GOMEZ have been elected to the International League All-Star Game. Both were named starters for the IL in the 26th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game against the Pacific Coast League to be played Wednesday, July 17 in Reno, NV.

Both Negrych and Gomez will be playing in their second Triple-A All-Star Game. Negrych was selected to the IL All-Star team in 2012 while playing for the Syracuse Chiefs while Gomez was selected to the 2011 IL squad while playing with the Gwinnett Braves.

Negrych has been among the International League's best hitters all season long. In 68 games, the Buffalo-native has averaged .327 (82-251) -third best in the International League. He also leads the Bisons with 24 doubles (T5th in IL) and a .394 on-base percentage (T6th in IL) and ranks second on the club in hits (82) and extra-base hits (28). Negrych has made just two errors in 218 total chances at second base for a .991 fielding percentage.

Among his many accomplishments this season, Negrych hit for the cycle in a game on April 18 in Syracuse.

Gomez has been one of the top sluggers in all of minor league baseball and is tied for the 2nd-most home runs in the minors with 24 (three more than any hitter in the International League). He has already posted five multi-homer games this year and tied the Bisons modern era record with 13 home runs in the month of June alone. Gomez also leads the Bisons with 152 total bases (5th in IL) and a .563 slugging percentage (4th in IL) and is second on the team with 46 runs scored and an .881 OPS. Overall, the designated hitter has averaged .244 (66-270) with 12 doubles and 54 RBI to go along with his circuit-best 24 homers.
