BROOKLYN, NY – April 27, 2022 – The only thing colder than the temperature was the Brooklyn bats, as the Cyclones fell to Bowling Green by the score of 4-1 on Wednesday evening. The ‘Clones were held without a hit through the first 5.1 innings before Rowdey Jordan broke up the no-hit bid with a clean base knock up the middle. Junior Santos (0-3) was tagged with the loss for Brooklyn after allowing four runs, all earned, on seven hits over 3.1 innings on the mound while walking four and striking out one.

After a quiet first inning for both clubs, Bowling Green scored a pair in the top of the second without an RBI as a throwing error led to one run and a Ronny Simon steal of home on the back end of a double steal accounted for the other. The lead would double in the fourth courtesy of a Tanner Murphy RBI triple which was paired with another Cyclones throwing error which allowed him to score and make it 4-0.

In the bottom of the eighth, the comeback ‘Clones tried to muster some of their late inning magic when Jose Peroza and Matt Rudick had back-to-back singles to start the frame and Nic Gaddis connected on a booming double down the left field line to plate Peroza with Brooklyn’s first run of the game and slice the deficit to 4-1. But Brooklyn would get no closer as J.T. Schwartz and Brandon McIlwain each popped out on the infield with runners on second and third to end the threat.

Jesus Vargas has a bright spot for the Brooklyn squad, as the righthander tossed 5.0 shutout frames, allowing four hits while striking out seven.

Brooklyn will look to bounce back tomorrow evening with RHP Jose Chacin on the mound. Game time is 7:00 PM.
