CONEY ISLAND, NY (April 28, 2022) – On a cold Thursday night, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, rallied for four runs in the ninth inning before falling short, losing 7-6, to the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Maimonides Park in the third of six games in Brooklyn.

KEY PLAYS

  • Down 7-2 into the ninth inning, Brooklyn rallied with two outs to cut the deficit to one run. Wilmer Reyes, who had a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth, cleared the bases with a three-run double to cut it to 7-6 after Matt Rudick’s run-scoring double earlier in the inning. With Reyes at third base after a wild pitch, Bowling Green’s Sean Mullen induced a ground ball out, retiring Brandon McIlwain to end the threat and the game.
  • Bowling Green’s John Doxakis, the No. 29 Tampa Bay prospect, struck out eight Cyclones hitters over six scoreless frames, allowing just four scattered baserunners in the victory.
