Cyclones Split Doubleheader in Jersey Shore on Friday

Lakewood, NJ (June 3, 2022) – The Cyclones dropped Game One of Friday’s doubleheader, falling to the BlueClaws by the score of 2-1. RHP Carson Seymour (0-2) took the loss for Brooklyn after allowing two runs, earned, on six hits with three strikeouts over his 4.0 innings on the mound.

Brooklyn’s lone run came early on after Rowdey Jordan jump-started the game with a double on the first pitch he saw, advanced to third on a fly out one pitch later and scored when Matt O’Neill hit a grounder to third but Jordan was able to beat the throw home to give Brooklyn an early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the frame Jersey Shore got even when Johan Rojas stole home on the back end of the double steal to knot things up at 1-1.

In the fourth, the ‘Claws took the lead after a pair of two-out hits – a double from Casey Martin and a single from Carlos De La Cruz – pushed home the go-ahead run and gave Jersey Shore a 2-1 advantage, which is how the game would end.

Lakewood, NJ (June 3, 2022) – After dropping Game One to the Blue Claw by the score of 2-1, the Cyclones returned the favor in the nightcap defeating Jersey Shore, 2-1. RHP Junior Santos (2-4) got the win after tossing 5.0 dominant frames, scattering four hits and striking out six before turning it over to Sammy Tavarez who struck out five over the final 2.0 innings to collect the save.

Brandon McIlwain led off the top of the 2nd with a triple and would score on a Jose Peroza fielder’s choice to give the Cyclones a 1-0 edge. An inning later McIlwain had an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0. Brandon McIlwain is batting .366 (15-41) with a .469 OBP and a 1.054 OPS since May 18th.

Jersey Shore’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of an RBI double from Casey Martin. But the turning point in the game came in the bottom of the fifth. With one out in the frame, Karl Eillison reached on an error and Uziel Viloria followed with a double to put a pair of runners in scoring position for the ‘Claws. But Junior Santos struck out Baron Radcliff and Johan Rojas to end the threat and keep the Cyclones ahead.

Tavarez struck out the first five batters he faced out of the Brooklyn bullpen before plunking Rixon Wingrove with two outs in the seventh. But the tall right hander was able to get Uziel Viloria to ground out soon after to close out the Cyclones victory.
