BOX SCORE GAME 1

Win – Tavera (2-2)

Loss – Seymour (0-3)

Save – Ramirez (1)

Home Run – None

Time of Game – 1:38

Brooklyn, NY (June 8, 2022) – Game One of Wednesday’s doubleheader was a pitchers’ duel on Coney Island with Brooklyn starter Carson Seymour (0-3) coming out on the short end despite having his best outing with the Cyclones. The righthander allowed just one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking one, but the Brooklyn bats weren’t able to mount any type of offense against IronBirds starter Carlos Tavera. The Aberdeen righthander allowed just one hit over his 6.0 innings while striking out eight in Aberdeen’s 1-0 win.

The only offense in the game would come in the top of the first when Coby Mayo had a two-out double and came around to score on a seeing-eye single up the middle from Jacob Teter to give the IronBirds a 1-0 lead.

The Cyclones were held hitless for 5.2 innings before Matt O’Neill had a single to break up the no-hit effort. But Brooklyn’s best scoring chance came in the last chance seventh inning with Rickey Ramirez on in relief for Aberdeen. Brandon McIlwain singled to start the frame and Jose Mena followed with a base knock to put a pair of runners aboard with nobody out. Jose Peroza then advanced the pair with a sacrifice bunt to get two runners into scoring position, but Jaylen Palmer struck out and Warren Saunders grounded out to end the game with Brooklyn on the losing end.

BOX SCORE GAME 2

Win – Pham (3-0)

Loss – Acosta (0-6)

Save – None

Home Run – None

Time of Game – 2:00

Brooklyn, NY (June 8, 2022) – Game Two was more of the same for the Cyclones as they fell to the IronBirds 4-1 in the nightcap. Brooklyn scored just one run in the two games on Wednesday evening while striking out 19 times.

RHP Daison Acosta (0-6) got the loss for Brooklyn after allowing four runs, earned, on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 3.2 innings on the mound.

The Cyclones played as the road team in Game Two, despite the contest being played in Coney Island, because it was the makeup of a game rained out in Aberdeen on May 7th. The IronBirds took a lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three times on four hits with a walk and the help of a wild pitch.

Meanwhile, the Brooklyn offense was stuck in neutral for most of the evening. But in the top of the seventh inning, Brooklyn mounted a threat. Brandon McIlwain was hit by a pitch before back-to-back singles from Jose Peroza and Warren Saunders loaded the bases. With Fernando Villalobos batting, Wes Robertson was called for a balk to push McIlwain home with Brooklyn’s first run of the day, making it 4-1. But that’s how the game would end as Villalobos and Jaylen Palmer both struck out to end the game.

Justin Courtney was a bright spot for the Cyclones in Game Two, striking out a pair over 2.1 flawless frames. The righthander came into Wednesday having allowed seven runs over his last 1.2 innings – spanning three outings – for Brooklyn.
