ABERDEEN, Md. (June 20, 2025) — After clinching the First Half North Division title on Thursday night, the Cyclones showed no signs of slowing down on Friday. DH Jesús Báez drove in three runs, including two on a ninth-inning home run, as Brooklyn won its sixth-straight game with a 7-2 victory over the Aberdeen IronBirds at Ripken Stadium.
The Cyclones (1-0, 47-20) came out of the gates quickly, striking for three runs in the top of the second. 3B Jacob Reimer was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and swiftly advanced to second on a single by SS Boston Baro. On a 3-2 pitch, C Ronald Hernandez smashed a towering drive off the right-center field fence, scoring both runners with a triple and putting Brooklyn ahead, 2-0. Two batters later, 2B Jefrey De Los Santos followed with a run-scoring hit to right, extending the early lead to three.

Aberdeen (0-1, 24-42) was able to get a run back in the bottom of the fourth when RF Austin Overn ripped a ground-rule double to right, stole third, and scored on a ground out to third by 2B Aron Estrada.
Brooklyn promptly got that run back in the top of the fifth. De Los Santos started the inning with an infield single to first, reaching second on a ground out. Following a walk to LF A.J. Ewing and a strikeout, Báez cracked an RBI single to left, placing the ‘Clones back up three, 4-1.

The Cyclones secured another insurance run in the seventh inning. RF Diego Mosquera reached base due to a throwing error with one out, and Ewing followed by hitting a single into right field. Mosquera advanced from first to third, but a bobble in right allowed Ewing to take second base. The throw to second base was high, caroming off the shortstop's glove and rolling away, which permitted Mosquera to scamper home on the error.
The IronBirds chipped the deficit down to three in the eighth thanks to back-to-back singles from SS Leandro Arias and 3B Anderson De Los Santos. Following a wild pitch, C Ryan Stafford’s sacrifice fly to center yanked Aberdeen to within 5-2.
That was as close as Aberdeen would get, however. In the top of the ninth, Brooklyn put the finishing touches on the win. Ewing smoked a ball down the first-base line that went for a two-base fielding error, and two batters later, Báez slammed a mammoth two-run home run on top of the Cyclones’ visiting clubhouse in left. The 20-year-old’s seventh blast of the season placed Brooklyn up by five, 7-2.

Aberdeen’s RHP Cohen Achen (2-5) was saddled with his fifth defeat. The Calgary, Alberta native yielded four runs on five hits in 6.0 innings, issuing two walks and punching out one.
The Cyclones try and stretch their win streak to a season-high-tying seven on Saturday. RHP R.J. Gordon (4-1, 2.73) is scheduled to make the start for the Cyclones.
