Blue Jays acquire Valdes in trade

Southpaw set to report to the Bisons

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired LHP RAUL VALDES in a trade with the Houston Astros in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Valdes will report to the Buffalo Bisons.

VALDES, 36, has split the 2014 season between the Houston Astros and the Triple-A Oklahoma City RedHawks of the Pacific Coast League. The southpaw was 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA with 13 strikeouts to only nine hits allowed in 10.1 innings of work for Oklahoma City. He was promoted to Houston in mid-April where he allowed five runs on five hits in 3.2 innings. He earned the save on April 26 against Oakland.

Valdes made seven starts and two relief appearances for the Bisons during the 2010 season and was 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA (36.0 IP, 36 SO). He split last season between Philadelphia Phillies and the Lehigh Valley and was a combined 5-6 with a 4.28 ERA in 31 games and 15 starts.
