Since the last time the Fireflies have met the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, they were impacted by the trade deadline. When the Chicago Cubs traded away Javier Baez, the big piece the Mets gave up was 2020 first round pick Pete Crow-Armstrong. Armstrong has been placed on the Pelicans active roster. In 2021, the outfielder is hitting .419 in six games and has drawn seven walks to increase his on-base percentage to .563. Overall, the Pelicans enter the series at 36-42 or 1.5 games behind Columbia.

Fayetteville is 33-44 this season, but has struggled mightily on the road this year, compiling just a 13-29 record away from Segra Stadium. Their top prospect is the RHP Alex Santos, who is 1-2 this season with a 3.65 ERA in 24.2 innings. He has held opponents to a .205 average this year. Their best player at the plate is outfielder Jordan Brewer. Brewer has a .265 average across 39 contests this season and has driven in 21 RBI this season.
