SALISBURY, MD – Carter Baumler and Juan De Los Santos each dazzled, Trendon Craig provided the offensive thump, and the Delmarva Shorebirds emerged victorious, 3-2, over the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Both the Shorebirds (19-34) and Woodpeckers (24-29) went down scoreless in their first four trips at-bat, until Delmarva finally struck with two outs in the fifth.

Trendon Craig broke the scoreless deadlock with a two-run homer, his second of the season, to make it 2-0 Delmarva.

Fayetteville cut it back to a one-run game in the seventh when Victor Mascai hit a solo homer, his sixth of the year.

The Shorebirds restored their two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth when Trendon Craig tripled and then scored on a wild pitch.

The Woodpeckers pushed one run across in the ninth, but Logan Cerny ended the game with a fly ball to the warning track with the Shorebirds prevailing, 3-2.

Juan De Los Santos (2-6) picked up the win for the Shorebirds, striking out a career-high 10 over six innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits.

Alex Santos (0-5) absorbed the loss for Fayetteville as he conceded three runs over four innings on two hits and a walk, striking out five.

Although he didn’t factor into the decision, Carter Baumler pitched masterfully again. He set a career high with six strikeouts over three shutout innings, extending his scoreless innings streak to begin his career to nine.

The Shorebirds continue their series with the Woodpeckers on Thursday, June 9. Ryan Long (1-1, 3.42) is slated to go for the Shorebirds while Fayetteville counters with Miguel Ullola (0-0, 2.55). First pitch from Perdue Stadium is slated for 7:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on MiLB.TV and theshorebirds.com with Sam Jellinek on the call.
