SALISBURY, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds made their final home game in the 2021 season a thriller with a 4-3 last at-bat triumph over the Fredericksburg Nationals on Sunday afternoon at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The win helped the Shorebirds (64-50) earn a series split with the Nationals (40-74).

Scoreless after the first inning, the FredNats struck with two outs in the second. Jeremy De La Rosa singled before Jose Sanchez belted a two-run homer, his third of the year, to start the scoring.

Singles from Logan Michaels and Mishael Deson opened the third for Delmarva and put men at the corners. Collin Burns then brought home Michaels with a fielder’s choice to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The score stayed steady until Delmarva jumped ahead in the seventh. With two on and two out, Reed Trimble roped a two-run double to the wall in left, scoring both runners and vaulting Delmarva ahead 3-2.

Juan Paulino doubled to start the eighth for the FredNats and Jaden Fein was then hit by a pitch. Jacob Young dropped down a sacrifice bunt that tied the game as Paulino raced around third and scored on the play.

Delmarva provided their own answer to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Connor Norby singled to start the inning and later stole second. Billy Cook ripped a grounder to center to score Norby and eventually win the game 4-3 for Delmarva.

Daniel Lloyd (1-0) collected the win for Delmarva out of the bullpen. Lloyd allowed a run on two hits, striking out four.

Michael Kirian (1-1) absorbed the loss for the FredNats in relief. Kirian gave up a run on two hits in an inning, striking out two.
