RiverDogs Take Advantage of Delmarva Errors to Win Series

CHARLESTON, SC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (19-18) were defeated by the Charleston RiverDogs (17-22) in the final game of their 12-game road trip on Sunday night by a score of 7-4.

Charleston put two runs on the board right away in the bottom of the first on a throwing error, and RBI single by Kamron James to take a 2-0 lead after an inning.

They added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Dominic Keegan to push the advantage to 3-0.

In the third, the deficit for Delmarva became 4-0 after a solo home run by Carlos Colmenarez.

The run continued into the fourth for the RiverDogs as Xavier Isaac singled home Chandler Simpson to make it a 5-0 game.

The Shorebirds grabbed their first run in the fifth inning on a single by Carter Young, but a bad throw to first base got just far enough away for Elio Prado to score from second, pulling Delmarva within four at 5-1.

Charleston got that run back in the bottom of the sixth with a run-scoring single by Cooper Kinney as Dominic Keegan scored, making it 6-1.

Delmarva would attempt to put a comeback together in the top of the eighth by loading the bases with two outs. They manufactured one run on a wild pitch as Carter Young scored, but that's all they would get as Yoniel Curet struck out Adam Crampton to end the inning.

After an error allowed another run to score in the bottom of the eighth, the Shorebirds entered the ninth down 7-2. They made some noise by loading the bases again, this time with one out. Samuel Basallo then singled to score two runs with Luis Gonzalez and Angel Tejada coming in on the play to cut the Charleston advantage to 7-4. That brought the tying run to the plate with runners at first and second, but Anderson De Los Santos bounced into a 5-3 double play to end the ball game giving the RiverDogs a three-run win and series victory.

Yoniel Curet (1-1) was the winning pitcher in relief for Charleston with Jared Beck (0-2) taking the loss as the starter for Delmarva.

The RiverDogs took advantage of four errors by the Shorebirds by scoring four unearned runs in their 7-4 win.

Delmarva finished its 12-game road trip with a 5-7 record and now they return home to face the Lynchburg Hillcats on Tuesday. Opening pitch of game one is set for 11:05 a.m.
