Shorebirds Lose Fourth Straight

KINSTON, NC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (1-12) suffered a fourth consecutive defeat to the Down East Wood Ducks on Friday night by a score of 9-1.

Delmarva would fall behind in the first inning as a two-out error that allowed Gleider Figeureo to score, giving Down East a 1-0 advantage.

The Wood Ducks would increase their lead in the second as a balk and a throwing error, scoring a pair of runners, making it a 3-0 game.

Two more runs would find their way home in the third on a bases-loaded walk and a fielder's choice by Chandler Pollard gave the Wood Ducks a 5-0 edge after three.

The lead would balloon to 9-0 in the sixth on run-scoring hits by Erick Alvarez, Gleider Figeureo, and Jesus Lopez.

The Shorebirds offense was silenced by Down East pitching as Alejandro Rosario and Willian Bormie combined to shut out Delmarva in their eight innings, striking out 14.

Anderson De Los Santos helped the Shorebirds break the shutout in the ninth inning with an RBI single, but Delmarva would still fall short 9-1.

Willian Bormie (1-1) earned the win in relief for the Wood Ducks with Luis De León (0-2) taking the loss as the starter for the Shorebirds.

The series resumes Saturday evening as Michael Forret gets the call on the mound for Delmarva versus Kolton Curtis for Down East. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m.
