Columbia Evens Series with Lopsided Win over Delmarva

COLUMBIA, SC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (24-31) were defeated by the Columbia Fireflies (27-29) on Thursday night by a score of 12-3.

The Shorebirds grabbed a first-inning lead for the second straight game as Tavain Josenberger scored Enrique Bradfield Jr. from third base on a sacrifice fly to center, making it 1-0 Delmarva after an inning.

Anderson De Los Santos doubled the lead with a no-doubt, solo home run in the second inning to increase the advantage to 2-0.

The Fireflies would counter with a four-run, bottom of the second to take the lead with all four of their runs scoring with two outs, putting the Shorebirds behind 4-2.

They'd add on to that lead in the bottom of third on a bases-loaded, but a double play off the bat of Jared Dickey moments later would end the threat with Delmarva behind 5-2.

In the sixth, Columbia would grow their lead to four on a solo home run by Daniel Vasquez, giving the Fireflies a 6-2 edge.

The Shorebirds would get that run back in the top of the seventh as Tavaian Josenberger picked up his second RBI via a sacrifice fly as he scored Jalen Vasquez, making it a 6-3 game after seven innings.

But Columbia would put the game away for good in the bottom of the eighth as they scored six runs on two bases-loaded walks and a grand slam by Brett Squires to put Delmarva behind even further at 12-3 and that would be the final score as the Fireflies evened the series at one game apiece.

Eduardo Herrera (7-2) was awarded the win in relief with Delmarva starter Juan De Los Santos (1-9) taking the loss.

The Shorebirds will look to bounce-back on Friday night as Carter Baulmer draws the start against Ben Hernandez for the Fireflies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
