Hillcats Win First Two Games of Series

*SALISBURY, MD: *The Delmarva Shorebirds (40-56) suffered their seventh straight defeat on Wednesday night as they fell to the Lynchburg Hillcats (48-49), 8-2.

The Shorebird fell behind in the first inning as Robert Lopez singled home Angel Genao with two outs, giving the Hillcats a 1-0 lead.

Lopez then struck again in the third inning as he mashed a two-run homer over the wall in right field to make it 3-0 Lynchburg.

The Hillcats' catcher continued to wreak havoc as he pushed another run across in the sixth with an RBI single down the left-field line to put the Shorebirds in a 4-0 hole.

The deficit would grow even further for Delmarva in the top of the seventh as Angel Genao doubled in a pair of runs to make it a 6-0 game. Wuilfredo Antunez then scored Genao with a single to put Delmarva behind 7-0.

Delmarva would break the shutout in the bottom half of the seventh on an RBI triple by Brayan Hernandez to score Angel Tejada from first base, making it a 7-1 game.

After the Hillcats scored another run in the ninth, the Shorebirds would score one of their own on a sacrifice fly by Adam Crampton, but it would not be enough as Delmarva was defeated 8-2.

Both starters factored into the final decision as Austin Peterson (6-5) earned the win for the Hillcats with Edgar Portes (5-4) taking the loss for the Shorebirds. Braunny Muñoz (2) was awarded the save by recording the final nine outs.

The series continues on Thursday night as Delmarva looks to get back in the series and end their losing skid as first pitch for game three is set for 7:05 p.m.
