Red Sox Salvage Series Finale

SALEM, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (2-1) were unable to secure a series sweep on Saturday night as the Salem Red Sox (2-1) took the final game of the 3-game set by a score of 10-2.

Salem took their first lead of the series in the second inning as a ground ball off the bat of Randy Rosario made its way into right field to score Luis Ravelo, giving the Red Sox a 1-0 advantage.

The Shorebirds tied the game in the fourth inning with two out as Max Costas dropped a bloop single into left to bring Anthony Servideo home from second base.

The game would be tied for only a brief moment as the Red Sox re-took the lead in the bottom of the inning on a pair of balks by Yaqui Rivera that forced in two runs, giving Salem a 3-1 lead.

In the next half inning, Jackson Holliday found his way home on a wild pitch after a leadoff double to cut the Salem lead to 3-2.

But that's as close as the Shorebirds would get as the Red Sox began to pull away in the second half of the game.

Lyonell James scored Allan Castro in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-2. The lead then advanced to 6-2 on RBI singles by Castro and Cutter Coffey in the sixth. Yorberto Mejicano brought home two more with a two-run double in the seventh. Roman Anthony followed him with a run-scoring single to up the lead to 9-2. The Red Sox put up one more run in the eighth to make it 10-2, they'd go on to win by that score to salvage the final game of the series.

Luis De La Rosa (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Red Sox with Juan De Los Santos (0-1) taking the loss for the Shorebirds.

The offense for Delmarva was held to just four hits on Saturday, Max Costas provided two of those in his first start of the season as his first knock in the fourth brought home the Shorebirds' first run. Anthony Servideo reached twice in the game with a double and a walk with Jackson Holliday picking up his third double of the season in the fifth inning.

The Shorebirds return to Salisbury to begin their first homestand of the season on Tuesday as they face the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers at 7:05 p.m.
