Delmarva Held to Two Hits on Thursday Night

*SALISBURY, MD: *The Delmarva Shorebirds (21-19) dropped game three of their series against the Lynchburg Hillcats (21-21) on Thursday night as they were shut out 2-0.

Pitching was the story in this one, beginning with both starting pitchers. Adam Tulloch tossed 3.2 scoreless with 7 strikeouts for the Hillcats, while Juan Nuñez went 4.1 innings for Delmarva, matching his career-high with 8 strikeouts.

Nuñez departed with one out in the fifth and that's when Lynchburg manufactured the first run of the game as Juan Benjamin drew a bases-loaded walk to score Jose Pastrano. However, Alejandro Mendez would retire the next two batters to keep the bases loaded, minimizing the damage to just one run in the frame.

Delmarva's offense would not be able to get it going as they attempted to rally. Zach Jacobs spun a gem in middle relief for the Hillcats as he perfected the Shorebirds with seven strikeouts across his four innings on the slab.

Lynchburg added an additional run in the seventh on an RBI single by Guy Lipscomb to up the lead to 2-0 and that would prove to be enough as the Hillcats shut out the Shorebirds to take the third game of the series.

Zach Jacobs (4-1) earned the win in relief for Lynchburg with Juan Nuñez (0-1) taking his first loss of the season. Magnus Ellerts (3) recorded the save by retiring the final three men in order with two strikeouts.

The Shorebirds' offense will look for a bounce-back on Friday as Alfred Vega takes the mound to face Austin Peterson for Lynchburg with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
