Shorebirds Bounce Back with Shutout Victory Alfred Vega Leads Delmarva in Friday Win SALISBURY, MD: After suffering a shutout defeat on Thursday night, the Delmarva Shorebirds (22-19) rebounded with a shutout victory of their own as they blanked the Lynchburg Hillcats (21-22) by a score of 5-0 on Friday night.

*SALISBURY, MD: *After suffering a shutout defeat on Thursday night, the Delmarva Shorebirds (22-19) rebounded with a shutout victory of their own as they blanked the Lynchburg Hillcats (21-22) by a score of 5-0 on Friday night.

The Shorebirds grabbed the first lead of the game in the third on an RBI double by Angel Tejada as Adam Crampton was just able to slide past the tag at home to make it 1-0 Delmarva.

Alfred Vega drew the start for the 'Birds on Friday night and the right-hander tossed his best outing of the season by dealing five shutout innings, retiring the final 11 men he faced on the mound.

The bats gave him some more run support in the bottom of the fifth inning, starting with an RBI single by Samuel Basallo with two outs to score Tejada, upping the advantage to 2-0. His catching mate, Creed Willems, then doubled the lead to four with a two-run single up the middle to bring in Elio Prado and Basallo.

Moises Chace then entered for the Shorebirds and he carried the torch for Vega through the next three innings by not allowing any runs, striking out five Hillcats in the process.

The offense tacked on one more run in the seventh on RBI single by Carter Young as Delmarva rode a 5-0 edge through seven innings.

Luis Sanchez entered for the ninth and the flamethrower handled business in straight order with a pair of strikeouts to conclude Delmarva's first shutout victory of the season as they defeated Lynchburg 5-0.

Alfred Vega (1-1) earned his first victory of the season with Lynchburg starter Austin Peterson (1-4) taking the loss.

The Shorebirds offense was led by Creed Willems who reached base three times with two RBI, both on his single in the fifth. Samuel Basallo added another RBI in the same inning while collecting his 13th multi-hit game of the season. And Angel Tejada continued his nice run with an RBI double in the third, giving him 7 RBI in his last ten games.

Wyatt Cheney takes the mound on Saturday for Delmarva as they go for a series win. He'll face Parker Messic for the Hillcats with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
