*ZEBULON, NC: *The Delmarva Shorebirds (15-21) saw their three-game win streak end in the first game of their six-game series against the Carolina Mudcats (24-13) on Tuesday night as the Milwaukee Brewers' affiliate won 6-1.

Carolina would score the first runs of the game in the opening inning as they put two runs on the board with a sacrifice fly by Jose Sibrian that scored Tayden Hall, Daniel Guilarte then plated Luis Castillo with a single to make it 2-0 Mudcats.

Matthew Etzel made an instant impact in his first at-bat as a Shorebird as the 10th-round pick from Southern Mississippi drilled a solo home run off the scoreboard in the right field to pull Delmarva within one at 2-1.

It remained 2-1 into the fifth inning, but the Mudcats would eventually get that run back to go back up by two as Jadher Areinamo singled to score Luis Castillo, putting the Mudcats in front 3-1.

The deficit would grow for the Shorebirds in the seventh as Jose Sibrian hit a two-run homer over the wall in left to put Delmarva behind 5-1.

Luis Lara upped the Carolina lead to 6-1 with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Ultimately, Delmarva struggled to get the offense going as they were limited to just one hit on Tuesday night and the Mudcats would cruise to a 6-1 win in the first game of the series.

Both starters factored into the final decision as Alexander Vallecillo (2-2) earned the win with Edgar Portes (5-5) suffering the loss. Jesus Rivero (4) earned the save by pitching the final four innings.

The Shorebirds will look to bounce back on Wednesday night as Raúl Rangel takes the mound again Brian Fitzpatrick for the Mudcats with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
