Delmarva Wins Second Straight in Myrtle Beach
MYRTLE BEACH, SC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (9-21) picked up their second consecutive victory against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (11-18) on Thursday, winning 2-1 in 12 innings.
It was a pitchers' duel between the starters, as Delmarva's Jack Crowder delivered five scoreless innings in his professional debut, striking out five batters. His mound opponent, Will Frisch, pitched 5.1 innings and struck out eight batters.
The game remained scoreless through nine innings as Evan Yates and Deivy Cruz combined to pitch four scoreless innings to conclude regulation. At the same time, Alfredo Romero and Dominic Hambley kept Delmarva off the board at the end of the ninth.
Neither team scored in the tenth, which forced the game into the eleventh.
Delmarva broke the scoreless stalemate on a wild pitch in the eleventh, with Braylin Tavera touching home to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead.
Myrtle Beach quickly responded in the bottom half with an RBI single by Cameron Sisneros. However, Delmarva reliever Bryan Bautista dug deep and struck out back-to-back Pelicans to keep Sisneros at third as the winning run.
In the twelfth inning, Braylin Tavera delivered a clutch RBI double with two outs to score Alfredo Velasquez, putting the Shorebirds back in the lead at 2-1.
Bryan Bautista returned to the mound and kept Myrtle Beach off the board, keeping the tying and winning runs on the base paths to finish off a 2-1 victory in 12 innings.
With two innings of relief, Bryan Bautista (1-1) secured his first win for Delmarva, while Cole Reynolds (1-2) took the loss for Myrtle Beach.
The Shorebirds go for a third-straight win over the Pelicans on Friday as Sebastian Gongora takes the mound against Nazier Mulé for the Pelicans. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
