Entering the 2026 season, exactly 200 players have worked their way from the Lugnuts to make their Major League debuts.

All signs point to Daniel Susac as No. 201.

The 2023 Lansing Lugnuts catcher was selected in the Rule 5 Draft by the Minnesota Twins and traded to the San Francisco Giants for teenager Miguel Caraballo.

Patrick Bailey has the Giants' starting catcher spot locked down, but San Francisco saw an opening for competition for Bailey's backup. Susac responded, batting .350 with two home runs in Cactus League play to best Eric Haase.

As a teenager, Daniel Susac competed against Tyler Soderstrom for the title of best high school catcher in Northern California. The A's drafted Soderstrom out of Turlock High School in the first round in 2020, then turned around and selected Susac out of Arizona in 2022.

The next year, Susac was the Lugnuts' No. 1 backstop. In 99 games in the Midwest League before a promotion to Double-A, he hit .303 with seven home runs, eight stolen bases, and an .810 OPS. That .303 average was good enough in the pitching-dominant league to win the MWL batting crown, making him the first Lugnut since Bo Bichette in 2017 to top the Midwest League in batting average.

Now Daniel Susac joins the team where he watched his older brother, Andrew, debut, winning a World Series as a rookie on the 2014 Giants amid a six-year MLB career.

As the Giants open up the 2026 Major League season against the Yankees, watch for the big catcher. He'll get his chance, and become No. 201, down by the Bay.
