EASTLAKE, OH – Lazaro Armenteros and Tyler Soderstrom homered to wipe out a three-run deficit, only to see Korey Holland’s RBI triple lift the Lake County Captains (10-11) to a 4-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (7-14) on Sunday afternoon at Classic Park.

The two teams split the six-game series, playing the finale in one hour and 57 minutes.

The Captains used consecutive home runs in the first inning to build a 3-0 lead for the second time in three days, with Jhonkensy Noel following a Petey Halpin two-run homer off Lansing starter Osvaldo Berrios with his team-leading sixth roundtripper of the year.

After that inauspicious start, Berrios excelled, blanking the Captains over the next five innings while his teammates slugged their way back in the game.

In the third inning, Armenteros victimized Captains starter Tommy Mace with a blast to left-center, his team-leading fourth homer, to bring the Nuts within 3-1.

Facing reliever Hunter Stanley in the sixth, Austin Beck beat out an infield single and Soderstrom drilled the next pitch into the left-field stands to tie the score at 3-3. It was Soderstrom’s third home run of the season.

The Nuts believed they had taken the lead on a Lawrence Butler drive to center field leading off the seventh, but the umpiring crew ruled that the ball hit off the top of the wall, keeping Butler at second with a double. Lansing did not score that inning – but Lake County did in the home half, with Holland delivering a two-out triple to right-center to plate Micael Ramírez with the tie-breaking run.

Stanley then blanked the Lugnuts in the eighth, pitching around a Soderstrom walk, and a perfect ninth to secure the Captains victory.

Berrios finished with 6 2/3 innings worked, allowing seven hits, four runs and one walk, with two strikeouts. Southpaw James Gonzalez recorded the final 1 1/3 innings in perfect order, striking out two.

After a day off Monday, Lansing returns to Michigan’s state capital for 12 games in 13 days played at Jackson® Field™ from May 3-15, welcoming in the West Michigan Whitecaps for the first of six on Monday, May 3, with an 11:05 a.m. Grand Slam School Day.
