LANSING, Mich. – Lansing Lugnuts pitcher Gage Jump has been named the Midwest League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 28-May 4, Minor League Baseball announced Monday afternoon.
Jump, 22, allowed only one baserunner, a Jonah Advincula fourth-inning single, in firing five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts on Thursday evening at Jackson® Field™. The game was delayed due to rain in the top of the third inning and called due to unplayable conditions in the middle of the fifth inning, handing Lansing a 5-0 victory – and meaning Advincula’s single prevented Jump from tossing a rain-shortened perfect game. In the end, the southpaw became the first Midwest League pitcher with a complete game shutout this season.
The 73rd selection of the 2024 draft from LSU, Jump leads the Midwest League in strikeouts (37) and ranks fourth in WHIP (0.96) despite entering this season without any professional experience. He is the first Lugnut honored with a weekly award in 2025.
The Lugnuts (16-11) open a six-game series at division-leading West Michigan (17-10) on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at LMCU Ballpark. The next Lansing Lugnuts homestand arrives May 13-18 vs. South Bend. Tickets are available at the stadium box office, (517) 485-4500 or online at milb.com/lansing.
