Peter Poertner's the pick!
Minor League Baseball announced on October 6 that Lansing Lugnuts visiting clubhouse manager Peter Poertner was voted the 2026 Midwest League Visiting Clubhouse Manager of the Year.
Poertner, a resident of Howell, served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a firefighter, EMT and paramedic along his journey to the Lugnuts. He originally joined the Nuts as a member of the grounds crew in 2022 before becoming the visiting clubhouse manager in 2023. In 2024, pictured above, Poertner was honored as the Lugnuts' Veteran of the Game and threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
"I find it humbling and difficult to receive such an award without acknowledging the help and support I have had from so many others," said Poertner. "Specifically, I thank Zac Clark, for his unwavering confidence and allowing me to make the clubhouse into a place that visiting teams can relax and not be concerned with anything but the business of baseball, and the other departments, who have helped me in cleaning and maintenance.
"I am grateful."
Under Poertner's direction, the visiting clubhouse has become a singular place among all of Minor League Baseball. It is decorated with baseball memorabilia and flags representing the countries of origin for opposing ballplayers. Freshly cut fruits serves as the centerpiece of a full kitchen and commissary. There are a trio of arcade games in the tunnel, which are much appreciated during rain delays.
This is Peter Poertner's first honor as Visiting Clubhouse Manager of the Year.
