LILLINGTON, N.C. (July 8, 2018) - The Buies Creek Astros tied the game four separate times Sunday before winning in the bottom of the 10th inning 8-7 over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans from Jim Perry Stadium.
Tied at 5-5 entering extras, the Pelicans (40-48, 6-12) struck first with two runs. Aramis Ademan and P.J. Higgins delivered RBI singles to give the Birds a 7-5 advantage.
In the bottom of the inning, the Astros (50-37, 13-5) came back with three to win it off of Casey Bloomquist (2-3) before the Pelicans even recorded an out. Jonathan Arauz singled home a run to make it 7-6 before Corey Julks walked. Jacob Meyers then smashed the game-winning two-run double into right-center.
Yohan Ramirez (1-0), who allowed two runs, one earned, over his two innings, earned the win for Buies Creek.
The Pelicans found the board in the first frame with two unearned runs. A Jared Young sacrifice fly brought home D.J. Wilson before Jhonny Pereda crossed home on a passed ball.
In the third inning, the Birds made it 3-0 when Wilson plated Andruw Monasterio with an RBI ground out.
Buies Creek came storming back in the fourth. Ronnie Dawson ripped a two-run double to cut the deficit to 3-2 and Bryan De La Cruz knocked him in with a game-tying RBI single.
Pereda broke the tie in the fifth with a solo home run down the right field line, his sixth of the season. The Astros wasted little time tying the game up once again as Julks smacked an RBI double off the wall in right-center field in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score at 4-4.
In the seventh, Higgins gave the Birds the advantage back with an RBI single. However, Buies Creek tied it again in the eighth with Osvaldo Duarte's RBI double, which made things 5-5.
