RENO, Nev. – Following a two-week homestand, the Reno Aces (14-13) will hit the road and travel to Sacramento to take on the River Cats (14-13), the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The six-game series kicks off on Tuesday, April 29, with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m. PST.
The River Cats are coming off a series split on the road against the El Paso Chihuahuas. They currently own a 5-4 home record and are tied with the Aces (and Round Rock) for third place in the Pacific Coast League. Reno, however, is riding a four-game winning streak after putting away the Albuquerque Isotopes in six games this past week at Greater Nevada Field.
Notable players on Sacramento’s roster include RHP Carson Seymour and LHP Kyle Harrison.
Sacramento’s pitching staff has performed like the best in the league. Seymour, the Giants’ No. 20 overall prospect, has arguably been the top pitcher in the Pacific Coast League this season. The right-hander owns a league-best 1.93 ERA with 30 strikeouts and 11 walks in 28 innings (six starts). Although he has yet to pitch more than five innings in a game this season, Seymour hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any outing. His best performance of the year came on Opening Day against the Isotopes, when he struck out a season-high eight batters while allowing no runs on three hits and one walk over four innings. Against the Aces in 2024, Seymour posted a 3.86 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 21 innings (four starts), including a dominant outing in mid-June when he blanked Reno over six shutout frames, allowing just two hits and striking out four. Seymour figures to be a major challenge for the Aces on this road trip.
Harrison, a 23-year-old southpaw from San Jose, California, has also started the 2025 season strong. He leads the Pacific Coast League with 31 strikeouts and has posted a 3.86 ERA over 21 innings. His most impressive outing came recently against El Paso, where he limited the Chihuahuas to two runs (zero earned) over six innings with a season-high eight strikeouts. Harrison spent most of the 2024 season with the Giants, compiling a 4.56 ERA with 118 strikeouts and 42 walks across 124 1/3 innings (24 starts). One of his standout performances came on May 7, when he tossed seven shutout innings against the Colorado Rockies, walking two and striking out two. Reno’s offense will need to be sharp to overcome Sacramento’s elite pitching staff.
Jordan Lawlar looks to continue his outstanding 2025 campaign in Sacramento. The star infielder is slashing .356/.451/.644 with 18 extra-base hits, including five home runs, 26 RBI, and 16 walks. He leads the Pacific Coast League in OPS (1.095), hits (37), total bases (67), and runs scored (29). Even with limited appearances against Sacramento in 2024, Lawlar proved to be a threat, going 8-for-20 (.400) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, and eight RBI across four games. Heading into the six-game series, he’s riding a nine-game hitting streak, batting .474 (18-for-38) with five doubles, two home runs, and 14 RBI during that stretch.
After the series in Sacramento, the Aces will return to Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, May 6, to host the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Athletics.
