Reno, Nev. – The Reno Aces (32-24, 67-64) return to Greater Nevada Field after dropping their away series to the Albuquerque Isotopes to host the El Paso Chihuahuas (21-36, 52-80), the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The six-game series will begin on Tuesday, September 3, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. PT.

The Aces traveled to El Paso at the beginning of August and had their best road trip of the season. Reno swept the Chihuahuas, lifting them well into the playoff conversation. The upcoming series will be the final meeting between the two clubs this season.

Notable El Paso’s roster players include OF Tirso Ornelas and RHP Matt Waldron.

Ornelas, the #18 overall prospect in San Diego’s system, has been one of El Paso’s most consistent offensive threats this season. The lefty-swinging outfielder currently leads his team in games (112), batting average (.308), hits (128), total bases (210), doubles (24), and RBI (78). The 24-year-old from Tijuana, Mexico, hit well against the Aces in their previous series, going 7-for-22 (.318) with two doubles, one home run, three RBI, and four walks. Ornelas should be a prime threat to the Aces during this week’s matchup.

Reno is scheduled to see knuckleballer Matt Waldron in the upcoming series. Waldron has spent most of the season with the Padres, posting a 4.79 ERA with 130 punchouts and 40 walks in 142 2/3 innings. He recently debuted with the Chihuahuas, allowing three runs (two earned) across 4 2/3 frames against the Tacoma Rainiers, walking none and striking out four. The Aces should be ready for the knuckleball, as Waldron has thrown his primary pitch 38.2% of the time to hitters in 26 starts in the MLB this year.

The Aces offense was on fire in their previous series vs the Chihuahuas, collectively slashing .332/.399/.546 with 26 extra-base hits, 11 home runs, and 53 RBI. Tristin English led the offensive showcase, going 13-for-28 (.464) with three doubles, two home runs, and eight RBI. After a disappointing first half, the 27-year-old has found a groove, hitting .309/.373/.526 with nine home runs and 29 RBI since June 25.

Kyle Garlick and Bryson Brigman were critical contributors in Reno’s six-game sweep over El Paso. Garlick collected four extra-base knocks with two round-trippers and eight RBI. Brigman, hitting the cover off the ball, drove seven runs after going 9-for-19 (.474).

The Aces return to Greater Nevada Field on September 3 to host the El Paso Chihuahuas, the San Diego Padres Triple-A affiliate, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. PT.
