ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (11-4) extended their winning streak to seven games on Thursday night with a 6-1 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes (5-10) at Dell Diamond.

Round Rock reliever RHP Nick Tropeano (1-0, 5.00) earned his first win of the year after tossing 3.0 scoreless innings that saw one hit and two strikeouts. Albuquerque starter RHP Zach Neal (1-2, 6.59) provided 5.1 innings but earned the loss. He surrendered four runs on six hits and snagged three strikeouts.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • Express 1B Matt Carpenter opened the scoring in the second inning. DH Yohel Pozo led the frame off with a soft single before Carpenter came up next with a triple to give Round Rock a 1-0 lead. After a strikeout for 2B Nick Tanielu, RF Elier Hernandez drove in Carpenter with a single and extended the lead to 2-0.
  • Carpenter continued his big night in the sixth inning. With Pozo on first base, Carpenter hit his second home run of the season and gave Round Rock a 4-0 advantage.
  • Round Rock’s offense continued to cook in the seventh when back-to-back doubles from C Meibrys Viloria and SS Ryan Dorow put runners on second and third base. A single from 3B Josh Smith scored Viloria before the third baseman was caught stealing. CF Leody Taveras then tripled to send Dorow home and increase the Express lead to 6-0.
  • Albuquerque loaded the bases in the eighth inning facing Round Rock RHP Yerry Rodriguez. RHP Hever Bueno took over on the bump with nobody out and went on to allow just one runner to score on a single from Isotopes 2B Tim Lopes, making it a 6-1 contest.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Round Rock RHP Tyson Miller got the baseball to open the night and went three scoreless frames. He surrendered only one hit while walking two and striking out three. RHP Nick Tropeano took over in the fourth and matched Miller. He went three scoreless innings with two strikeouts and allowed only one hit.
  • 1B Matt Carpenter finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBI. His triple in the second inning was his first three-bagger since July 5, 2021, against the San Francisco Giants.
  • Express CF Leody Taveras extended his hitting streak to five games. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Taveras has collected 10 hits over his last five contests and leads the Pacific Coast League with 24 hits this year.
  • After starting the season by allowing a run in each of his first two outings, RHP Hever Bueno hasn’t allowed a runner of his own in his last three appearances, extending his scoreless streak to 5.2 innings.
  • For the first time this year, Round Rock finished back-to-back contests without committing an error. The Express defense has committed just two errors in their last four games.

Next up: Round Rock and Albuquerque play game four at Dell Diamond on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Express LHP Jake Latz (2-1, 2.40) is slated to start against Isotopes RHP Ryan Feltner (1-0, 3.52**)**. The Express look for a series victory with a win.
