Round Rock Closes Out Homestand with 3-2 Loss to Albuquerque

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (28-32) dropped its series finale against the Albuquerque Isotopes (24-35) by a final score of 3-2 as the visitors earned a 5-1 series win on Tuesday night at Dell Diamond.

Round Rock starter LHP Hyeon-Jong Yang (0-1, 5.48) suffered the loss after allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Albuquerque reliever LHP Ian Clarkin (1-5, 8.24) earned his first win of the season with 3.0 perfect innings that saw one strikeout. Express relievers RHP Ryder Ryan, RHP Demarcus Evans and RHP Scott Engler combined for 4.0 perfect innings with six punchouts.

Albuquerque tallied its first run of the night in the first inning for the fifth time this series as RF Connor Joe hit a two-out home run to left field, giving the Isotopes an early 1-0 advantage.

Round Rock tied things up at 1-1 when 1B Elier Hernandez knocked a double then crossed home in the third thanks to a single from SS Yonny Hernandez.

SS Scott Burcham gave the Isotopes a 3-1 lead with a two-run dinger in the fifth inning. Burcham’s hit also scored CF Wynton Bernard, who had reached on a base hit in the previous at-bat.

The second Express run of the contest scored in the eighth as 3B Ryan Dorow raced home on a Yonny Hernandez single after drawing a leadoff walk then advancing to second on a passed ball.

Both Round Rock’s Engler and Albuquerque’s RHP Logan Cozart threw for 1-2-3 ninth innings that kept the game’s final scored locked at 3-2, the fifth consecutive victory for the Isotopes.

Round Rock starts a 12-game road trip on Thursday as the team travels to face the Sacramento River Cats (San Francisco Giants affiliate) at Sutter Health Park. Express LHP Brock Burke (0-4, 7.11) is set to start up against a River Cats pitcher to be announced. The series-opening first pitch is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. CT.
