Express Offense Plates 13 Runs on 15 Hits as Albuquerque Commits Three Errors

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (43-37) took down the Albuquerque Isotopes (37-43) by a final score of 13-3 at Dell Diamond on Wednesday night. Round Rock has won the first two games of the six-game series.

Express reliever RHP A.J. Alexy (4-3, 6.52) collected the night’s win with 3.0 innings of scoreless baseball that included two hits and three strikeouts. Isotopes starter RHP Ashton Goudeau (0-3, 12.46) picked up the loss after he allowed eight runs, seven of which were earned, on eight hits in just 3.0 innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • Round Rock jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first frame. CF Bubba Thompson reached base on an Albuquerque error to start the night then stole second base and advanced to third on a balk. With two outs, an infield single for LF Nick Solak scored Thompson.
  • The E-Train offense plated four runs on five hits in the second inning. Three straight singles for 3B Andy Ibáñez, RF Josh Sale and 1B Elier Hernandez started the inning. Hernandez’s single scored one before SS Ezequiel Duran doubled to score two runs with two outs. DH Steele Walker added one more single to score Duran and extend the lead to 5-0.
  • Round Rock added three more in the third. Ibáñez singled with one out, stole second base and advanced to third when the throw went into center field. He scored on a wild pitch. Sale earned a one-out walk before 2B Diosbel Arias blasted a two-run, 389-foot shot to left field that increased the lead to 8-0.
  • The Express hummed along for two more runs in the fifth inning and took a 10-0 lead. After Sale was hit by a pitch to start the inning, Hernandez and Arias earned back-to-back walks to load the bases. Thompson hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring Sale, and Duran popped a sacrifice fly to score Hernandez.
  • Albuquerque scratched across three runs in the seventh inning. A one-out walk for RF Bret Boswell and a single for LJ Hatch were followed by a double for 3B Coco Montes that scored Boswell. C Dom Nunez belted a sacrifice fly and C Carlos Perez reached on a fielding error to cut the lead at 10-3.
  • The E-Train tacked another run on in the bottom of the seventh frame. With the bases loaded, LF Nick Solak hit into a fielder’s choice to score Arias and grab an 11-3 lead.
  • In the eighth inning, 1B Nash Knight pinch-hit and added two more runs on a two-out, two-RBI double. Knight plated Ibáñez and Arias as the Express led 13-3 where the score stood final.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Express SS Ezequiel Duran, DH Steele Walker, LF Nick Solak and 3B Andy Ibáñez all recorded two hits each while 2B Diosbel Arias finished the night with a team-leading three. Arias, Solak and 1B Nash Knight all grabbed two RBI while Duran had three RBI.
  • Round Rock stole four bases on the night as CF Bubba Thompson, Solak, Walker and Ibáñez each claimed a free bag. It is the third time this year that the Express have stolen four bases in a game.
  • The E-Train swatted 15 hits for the seventh time this season and the first since May 28 at Albuquerque. Round Rock is averaging 11.8 hits per game in their first five games this month.

Next up: Round Rock and Albuquerque get set for game three of the series on Thursday, July 7 at Dell Diamond. Express RHP Kohei Arihara (2-4, 5.36) is set to make the start against Isotopes RHP Riley Smith (2-3, 7.65). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
