ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (37-29) pitching staff led the way in the 8-1 win over El Paso Chihuahuas (29-37) on Thursday night at Dell Diamond. The three Chihuahuas hits were tied for the least amount of hits allowed by the E-Train in a nine-inning game this season.

Round Rock reliever RHP Fer Ozuna (3-2, 4.82) walked away with the win after 2.1 scoreless innings that saw one walk and one strikeout. El Paso starter LHP Jay Groome (1-6, 9.80) gave up five hits and eight runs, five of which were earned, while walking four and striking out two in 2.2 innings, which led to him taking home the loss.

Along the Train Tracks

  • The Express saw the scoresheet first in the second inning after 1B Blaine Crim reached on an error and DH Yoshi Tsutsugo smacked his second home run in as many contests and put the E-Train up 2-0.
  • In the third inning, after singles from CF J.P. Martinez and RF Eier Hernandez and a walk from Crim loaded the bases, Tsutsugo tallied three more RBI with a bases-clearing triple to extend the lead to 5-0. With two runners on for LF Sandro Fabian, his double, accompanied by two El Paso errors, allowed for a little league home run and an 8-0 game.
  • Chihuahuas LF Taylor Kohlwey ended hopes of an E-Train shutout with his solo home run in the sixth inning to cut the Express lead to 8-1.
  • Two straight scoreless innings from the bullpen allowed Round Rock to secure the 8-1 win.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Round Rock DH Yoshi Tsutsugo launched a two-run home run in the second inning of Thursday’s win, which marks his second home run in as many games. It is the first time this season that Tsutsugo has notched back-to-back games with a home run, but the sixth overall in his career. Tustsugo also recorded a bases-clearing triple to end the night with five RBI, which ties E-Train INF Davis Wendzel for an individual single-game high RBI.
  • With a single in the third inning, Express RF Elier Hernandez extended his hitting streak to 19 games. The 19-game mark is tied for the fourth longest streak by a player in club history and is the most since OF Delino DeShields hit safely in 19 games in 2021. The Hernandez streak is tied for the longest of the season in the Pacific Coast League after Oklahoma City INF Jahmai Jones did not play in today’s cancelled contest against Salt Lake.

Next up: Round Rock will face El Paso in game four on Friday at 7:05 p.m. CT. Express RHP Robert Dugger (1-4, 4.98) is scheduled to start up against Chihuahuas RHP Matt Waldron (1-5, 6.97).
