Former Yankees star third baseman Graig Nettles and former Red Sox star pitcher Bill "Spaceman" Lee join Yard Goats coaches for Free Youth Baseball

(Hartford, CT) The Hartford Yard Goats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, has announced that the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) has partnered with the Yard Goats for a free youth baseball clinic on Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 AM until 12:00 at Dunkin' Donuts Park. In addition, there will be an autograph session for the kids at the conclusion of the clinic. Former Yankees star third baseman Graig Nettles and former star Red Sox pitcher Bill "Spaceman" Lee will headline a list of nine former Major League players that will be on hand. Yard Goats Manager Warren Schaeffer, Hitting Coach Lee Stevens, and Pitching Coach Mark Brewer will be working the clinic as well. The free clinic will be open to kids from the ages of 6-14 and registration is not required. Participants will receive a complimentary logo baseball and T-shirt.
Nettles is a former third baseman that played 22 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Yankees, Twins, Padres, Braves, Expos and Indians. The two-time Gold Glove winner and six-time All-Star had 2,225 career hits, 390 home runs and over 1,300 RBI's. He was the New York Yankees captain from 1982 through 1984 and a member of 1977 and 1978 World Champion Yankees.
Lee is a former left-handed pitcher who played for the Red Sox from 1969 through 1978 and the Montreal Expos form 1979-1982. He holds the record for the most games pitched by a left-hander for the Boston Red Sox. He won 119 games and posted a career 3.62 ERA. Lee was an All-Star in 1973.
Other former Major League Baseball Players scheduled at the Youth Clinic include: OF Angel Echevarria (Rockies), LHP Dave Fleming (Mariners, Royals), OF Joe Lahoud (Red Sox, Brewers, Angels, Rangers, Royals), C Matt Merullo (White Sox, Indians, Twins), P Gary Waslewski (Red Sox, Yankees, Expos, Cardinals, Athletics). The Hartford Yard Goats continue their homestand tonight against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) at 7:05 PM at Dunkin' Donuts Park.
