Round Rock RHP Dane Dunning allowed a leadoff triple to start the night then continued to strikeout six consecutive batters.

In the bottom of the second, the Express put up five runs on five hits. Round Rock loaded the bags with three consecutive singles. 2B Alex De Goti then drew a walk and C Cooper Johnson came home. CF Evan Carter hit a sacrifice fly to right that brought in another run. SS Cody Freeman recorded his second hit of the night and drove in De Goti. 1B Blaine Crim capped off the inning with a two-run double that sent the Express ahead 5-0 after two.

In the eighth, Round Rock 3B Richie Martin got aboard with a single then stole second during De Goti’s at-bat. Martin stole third and came home on C Michael Perez’s throwing error to extend the E-Train’s lead to 6-0.

Express relievers RHP Patrick Murphy and LHP Robby Ahlstrom held the Aces to one hit in the final three innings en route to the E-Train’s 6-0 win and their third shutout of the season.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

DUNNING DOMINANCE: In his ninth start of the year, RHP Dane Dunning threw 6.0 innings allowing one hit without a run or a walk while striking out nine. Dunning gave up a triple to start the night then continued to strikeout the next six batters and retire 18 in a row. The right-hander’s nine punchouts are the most of any Round Rock pitcher this year. He became one of seven E-Train pitchers since 2005 to throw at least 6.0 innings, with one hit, no walks and no runs.

CAN’T STOP CODY: SS Cody Freeman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Saturday’s win. Freeman now has at least two hits in all five games of the series and is 11-for-22 with a double, a home runs, five RBI, three runs scored, one walk and three strikeouts. He has had at least two hits in seven of his last eight games.

SPEEDY STRAHM: LF Kellen Strahm stole his 18th and 19th bases in the fifth inning on Saturday. Strahm ranks second in the PCL for stolen bases this year. He’s been caught only once.

KEEP IT IN THE YARD: Round Rock’s pitchers have held Reno without a home run in five consecutive games. The Aces have gone without a homer in six consecutive games, including their series finale against Albuquerque on May 25. Before coming to Dell Diamond, Reno hadn’t been held without a homer for more than two games at a time this year.

NO FREE BASES: Round Rock recorded their first game this year with conceding a walk, marking one of 13 PCL games this year without a walk.
